AQA GCSE Religious Studies now follows a consistent 1, 1, 4, 6 and 12-mark structure.
Knowing the course is essential.
But students also need to know how to select that knowledge, develop it, use religious teachings effectively and evaluate arguments under exam conditions.
Over six weeks, students will practise those skills directly.
This is not passive revision.
Students will write, improve, discuss and compare answers so that they can see what stronger examination performance actually looks like.

Optional Weekly Exam Clinic
Tuesdays, 7:00–7:30pm.
Each week students may also attend a 30-minute online drop-in session. They can use this to ask questions about that week’s work, check an argument or paragraph, or get help with something they found difficult.
Attendance is optional. No new core content is taught in the clinic. It is not individual tutoring or a replacement for a missed Thursday lesson.
WHO TEACHES THE COURSE?

More than 20 years teaching Religious Studies and Philosophy.
I am Head of Religion & Philosophy at The King’s School, Macclesfield.
I have taught Religious Studies and Philosophy for more than twenty years and have extensive experience as a GCSE Religious Studies examiner. I also have experience examining at A-level.
A recurring problem I see is that students often know far more than their marks suggest.
The difficulty is not always learning more content. It is learning how to select it, develop it and evaluate effectively under exam conditions.
That is what this programme is designed to address.
This is an independent tutoring service, not endorsed by The King’s School, AQA or OCR.
Why a small group?
Not every student needs the whole GCSE retaught one-to-one.
In this programme, everyone is working on the same core challenge:
writing better examination answers.
Students can:
- see how others approach the same question
- compare arguments and answers
- learn from common mistakes
Because the group is capped at six, every student can still receive individual feedback.

1:1 specialist tuition £60 per hour
This may be more suitable for students who:
- have major gaps in subject knowledge
- study a different specification
- need highly individual support
- are already achieving very highly and want targeted coaching

A FEW USEFUL ANSWERS
Before you apply
What is the Exam Clinic?+
The Tuesday Exam Clinic is an optional 30-minute drop-in. Students can ask questions about that week’s work, check an argument or paragraph, or get help with something they found difficult. No new core content is taught and it is not a replacement for a missed main lesson.
Is this ordinary GCSE RS tutoring?+
No. The programme focuses specifically on examination performance rather than reteaching the whole specification.
Does my child have to be aiming for a grade 9?+
No. It is designed particularly for students around grades 5–7 who want to move their performance upwards.
Can you guarantee a grade improvement?+
No responsible tutor can guarantee a particular grade. The programme provides focused teaching, practice and feedback aimed at improving the skills assessed by AQA.
Will there be homework?+
Yes, but only short focused practice, normally around 15–20 minutes.
What happens if my child misses a session?+
Course materials will still be provided, but individual replacement sessions are not included.
