Safeguarding & Communication

The safety and wellbeing of students is central to the way I run online tuition.

I am an experienced school teacher and am DBS checked through my current employed teaching role.

Parent/carer as main contact

For students under 18, the parent/carer is the main administrative and contractual contact. Scheduling, payment, formal feedback, course changes and significant concerns are communicated through the parent/carer.

Communication with students

Direct communication with students is kept to what is reasonably necessary for teaching. Where possible, lesson links and administrative information are sent to the parent/carer. Informal private messaging with students outside lessons is avoided, and communication remains professional and related to tuition.

Online sessions

Tuition is delivered through an agreed online platform, normally Google Meet. Students should join from an appropriate working environment. I recommend that a parent or responsible adult knows when the session is taking place and is available nearby if needed.

Students should not join lessons from a bedroom where a more suitable communal or study space is reasonably available.

Group sessions

Students are expected to behave respectfully towards others. Students’ contact details are not intentionally shared with other students.

Students must not record, photograph, screenshot or redistribute any part of a live session without explicit permission.

Recording

Sessions are not routinely recorded. If recording were ever proposed for a specific reason, the purpose would be explained and appropriate parent/carer consent obtained in advance.

Student information and submitted work

Only information reasonably necessary to provide tuition is collected. For free diagnostic work, parents are asked to remove the student’s surname and school-identifying information where those details are not needed.

Professional boundaries

Tuition is an educational service. Communication is kept focused on teaching, progress, scheduling and related educational matters. Social-media contact or unrelated private communication with students is not part of the service.

Safeguarding concerns

If I become concerned about a child’s safety or welfare, I will take the concern seriously and respond in line with appropriate safeguarding practice.

Depending on the circumstances, this may include:

• making an appropriate factual record
• contacting the parent/carer where it is safe and appropriate
• seeking safeguarding advice
• contacting children’s social care or another appropriate safeguarding service
• contacting the police or emergency services where there is an immediate risk of serious harm

A safeguarding concern may need to be shared without consent where this is necessary to protect a child.
